By Football Italian staff It is not often that a player like Gianlui Buffon leaves a team.
Buffon arrived at Napoli from Juventus in the summer of 2011 and has played for seven Serie A clubs since.
The 33-year-old Italian international is a long-time admirer of the club he joined, but he also admits that he was not happy with the choice of his new club.
“I am happy with my new home, I had a great experience there and it’s a great city.
I’ve been here for two years and I’ve got a lot to learn,” he told Sportmediaset.
“There’s a lot of different styles of football and I think it’s going to help me grow.”
Buffon made just six appearances for Napoli last season, but the team’s first European Cup victory in 2017 was a result of his efforts.
“The first time I played there was against Juventus and they played a team with a lot more firepower than ours,” he said.
“And when we beat them, I knew I had the chance to win the championship.
That was the moment when I knew my future was here.”
Buffons agent, Giacomo Bonini, said he was looking forward to working with the player once he returns to Italy.
“Gianlui is a young player and he has had a very good experience in his first year with the club,” Bonini told Sport Mediaset.
